The Athlete of the month, for the month September is.... Dan Barratt!
Dan has been aiming for a sub 3 marathon since joining Best Athletics. After just a few months of training he manged to crack it at his first attempt. He finished Brighton marathon in a mighty impressive 2h 58m finishing 40th overall!
Despite the course being over 500 meters long, this didn’t stop Dan getting that magical sub 3hr marathon he had been training for! This makes his time equivalent of at least a 2h 56m.
After seeing his speed at track (and his bruised leg which was more blue than tour team vests), I knew we was more than capable of achieving this main target goal. It was just about getting the combination of marathon training right, while Dan still played rugby ever week.
He nailed some crucial runs, especially in that important phase from 6 to 3 weeks out from the marathon. His longer runs were on point and this was clear as he started getting more and more used to and comfortable at his target marathon pace! What you put in, is what you get out and I knew it was just a case of executing it on the day. Which Dan clearly did!
Been a pleasure witnessing his progression! Following a formula that most certainly works for him, as it does for many of us! His sights are set for Manchester half next weekend and already he has shown speedy signs of recovery.
Dan has a bright future, the right mindset, is not scared to put in the work and with that combination he’ll without a doubt achieve a lot more in the future! Proud runner! Proud coach!
